How I Discovered the Secret to Selling Without Resistance
I first started selling over 30 years ago. At the beginning, I was 100% focused on “making something happen.”
Unfortunately, when it came to selling, I had no idea how to do that.
I read the books, I took the trainings, wrote down all of the “to dos” and best practices that I was uncovering. I was doing everything “right,” and I had nothing to show for it.
Any reasonable person would have quit at this point. After all, there’s a limit to how much failure and frustration one person can experience, but I didn’t. Instead, I just started watching…instead of listening to the experts tell me what I was supposed to do, I just started watching what successful salespeople were actually doing…
That’s when I realized something terrible:
There was no way I was going to do those things they were doing to succeed.
You’ve probably heard about this traditional approach to selling before: make a lot of phone calls, every “NO” brings you one step closer to a yes!, sales is a numbers game, blah, blah, blah.
I’m just not one of those “hard closers” type of salespeople. I’ve never been that way, I’m never going to be that way. PERIOD.
So I had to find another way. Another way to succeed in selling without having to do what the “hardcore closers” did.
And then I found the “secret…”
Luckily, I found a few salespeople who were doing things very differently. They weren’t actually focused directly on “making the sale.” Instead, they were focused on other things, things that led not only to one sale, but to MANY sales.
What were they focusing on?
They were focusing on building real human connections, powerful relationships, with the people they were serving.
They were focusing on a way to sell that completely removes the resistance from the process.
Instead of pushing your way to success, you can actually enjoy the ride!
And from there, my sales career was never the same. And now, almost 30 years later, I’m happy to report that I have taken this approach that’s led to hundreds of millions of dollars of sales, both offline with face-to-face sales of physical products and services as well as online sales of services, products and programs.
None of those sales was a “hard close” type of sale.
All of them were the result of what I call “selling without resistance.”
